weekend in grimsby & scunthorpe 130805

i have yet to report on my fortnight’s experience of working..in general i’ll give it a 3 1/2 star rating. working environment’s not too bad.i’m currently in breast surgery, average patients i’m responsible for: 5. one of my consultant’s been on leave, so last monday i only had 1 patient to look after. she then was discharged home around 1330 that same day, therefore i was left jobless again. tuesday, guess how many admissions i had? 0.yes u read it right: 0  patients. i was so ‘mati kutu’ i actually went back to my crappy room for a quick zzzz. the acoomodation they’ve provided us is to be ridiculed. i live in a corridor of 14 rooms (i just counted them 2seconds ago) and it’s 75% occupied. we’re expected to share 2 showers,2 toilets,1 bath,1 kitchen n 1 tv room.i was like d***. i live in a box measuring 3m x 4m and just too make feel more suffocated, it’s jam-packed with a single bed (has a horrible mattress btw, lendut kt tengah2nyer..), 1 bedside table, 1 dressing table, 1 huge cupboard, 2 shelves, 2 chairs, 1 stool, 3 mirrors and 1 sink. and the ventilations great too: there’s one window that’ll only open up 1 jengkal apart, tapi takleh tutup rapat. so at night i’ll be shivering like a person who’s stuck in a mortuary freezer bed!!!my rooms like a tongkang pecah now, once i sort things out i’ll snap a few pixies n let u all have taste of what i have to live in.

and so, to escape from this little hellhole, i decided to hop on a train to scunthorpe to meet up with kt, normi n norley. it was norley’s birthday last friday and she’s been feeling really down being stuck in another hellhole called Bangor. it’s some hilly town in wales where ur awaken by the sound of seagulls. i definitely have to go there one day as i’ve always loved the sound of seagulls over the background of splashing sea water. as i was on the transpennine express, they sms-ed me saying they were watching a movie n i had to wander around scunthorpe by myself for 2 hours whilst they watched the island.i was like what would i wanna do there by myself so i decided to just head up to grimsby town, n see how syida n win were doing there.

grimsby: nice town, met up with them at freshney place. surprisingly they even have starbucks??kalah doncaster siot!!they were provided with wonderful flats, shared by 2. even got 2 rooms each. spacious kitchen. f***. they’re 2nd room was even bigger than my only box-room n they even have two comfy couches in it!!!!therefore i decided to stay the night there. win made spaghetti bolognaise. wonderful cooking. while dining we watched this skinny guy trying to impersonate robbie williams in his kiss outfit on ‘Stars in their eyes’. fairly disgusting to watch but i have to give it to him, it was an OK performance for an average joe.

next day, sunday 0705 am: DAMN!!there goes the alarm clock. why so early on a sunday morning? i was getting a lift from syida’s flatmate najmie to scunthorpe as she was on-call that morning. arghh, i dreaded having to get out of bed that early on a cool, lovely sunday morning. anyway, there’s always sacrifices that has to be made in order to get something for "free". thanks again najmie for the ride.i just hope u got to work on time with all the road diversions n sesat2. arrived in scunthorpe general hospital, everyone else got ready and we took a 20 min hike to town just to realize that the whole town was closed for business. ape laa scunthorpe. dahlaa takde bus service langsung on sundays!! luckily tj hughes was open and we managed to have a mini-cosmetics shopping spree of our own there. mana tak nyer:

happy birthday 2 me ;)

July 31st, 2005 by fifiem

so july 27th was my day.well it was supposed to be lah. twas my 24th birthday n also the first day i was going to start my prho shadowing here in donny. and so i woke up around 0700, n found i had 3 birthday sms. from mom, azie n na. later in e day got it from dad, abg naz, asma’, maznee, shahir, nadine, etc.i actually had a few sending greetings way earlier than i was supposed to have got them.i’m so proud of my friends who did give me those in advance wishes, thanks alot! not to forget the later ones, thanks a million!!(tapi ikraam: bukan main semangat pasal clan 27th, tapi wish birthday aku tarikh 28hb gak..itu takleh terima haha!!)

n so, i took my a step closer to becoming a doctor in england. took a lovely hot shower, got dressed, a bowl of high-fibre cereal that tasted so good (oh how i love the milk here!) and slipped on my old pair of clarks loafers. i had everything figured out: where to go, who to meet, etc. well at least i thought i did. as i stepped out the door, about 5 steps later i noticed there was something different about my right shoe. it somehow felt wider than usual.

it turned out this: Dscn1736_1

transformed in an instant into :Dscn1739

i was like S***!!! and these were one of my most comfy shoes ever! plus it was my ONLY work shoes!!! therefore i was forced to wear my traumatised maroon prestos to work. luckily people here weren’t bother about dresscodes and stuff. so ’slambe dek’ lah i went to work wearing my sneakers. my next job was going to be in breast surgery. met up with the house officer i was shadowing at the post-graduate centre. lovely lady, dr elinor cromarty. great communication skills i’ll say. very helpful too, even gave me a whole piece of paper that had all the tips, do’s & don’ts, important numbers that she made just for me. 3 cheers for elinor! wasn’t a really busy department, would probably have plenty of free time later on. just imagine, the whole breast ward round consisted of only 10 patients! working hours start at 0800, and by the time i arrived there the rounds were over!! and that was only like 0900. that really put a huge smile on my face! hehe.. and so elinor gave me a quick tour around royal infirmary. showed me how to go around all the paperwork, met up with a few patients and the day was over for me! did bump into my future bosses: Mr. Kazzazi & Mr. Psaila. i have no idea if they’re english or what, don’t ask. Mr. K and Mr. P surprisingly have very different ways of working. Mr. K’s the more laid back kind of person, where as Mr. P’s the kind that gets all excited about very minor details such as what should/should not be written on a specimen form. i’m not gonna take any sides. but Mr. P’s kinda cute though, he wears a bow-tie to work! ;)

later on, met up with suresh, checked out the accommodation they’re giving us. looks kinda crappy. it’s like one of those old hostels that nobody lives in anymore. well, i guess i just got to make do with whatever’s given as it’s free. no rental, no bills. at least it’s fully furnished and has all the necessary facilities like laundry room, badminton courts, etc. i just dread having to share the bathroom and kitchen. it won’t be too bad i hope. i’m only gonna be moving in on monday afternoon, as the current prho hasn’t moved out yet.

later that evening aida hani gave me a buzz wondering what i was up to. i was like NOTHING. she then picked me up in her cute grey-coloured nissan micra and drove me up to asda. grabbed a few household items and we headed to VUE. it’s doncaster’s own multiplex cinema. woohoo! as it was my birthday she gave me a treat: dinner at Frankie & Benny’s then catched the 2000hrs Fantastic Four. Thank you! Thank you!

2230hrs: fantastic four was kinda good, n that guy who played the firey-man was really H-H-HOTT!!! i’d give it a 4 star!

lalala…i love this song…

And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is (he has)
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky

I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes…

And so it is (he has)
Just like you said it should be
We’ll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is (he has)
The colder water
The blower’s daughter
The pupil in denial

I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off of you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes off you
I can’t take my eyes…

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?

I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off of you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind off you
I can’t take my mind…
My mind…my mind…
‘Til I find somebody new

July 24th, 2005 by fifiem

thurs 21 july 2005: finally e big day arrived at last!was looking 4wd 2it initially, but once i realized my family wasn’t here 2 celebrate it wimme it totally ruined my day. was a pleasant afternoon, the sun was just right, clear blue skies, no signs of an upcoming shower. ironed my clothes, got dressed, then headed over to syida’s place. picked up our robes.got a black robe dat had a miniature superman thingy at the back dat was military green in colour n had a magenta tip. as tho dat wasn’t bulky enough it also had some bulu2 on it, i dunno wat its called (it’s like those jackets yg org pakai in russia haha!). however we all managed carrying all dat extra weight for almost 7 hours!!i bet i burnt a well amount of calories just doing dat.haha. ceremony was so-so. luckily these brits were particular about time, therefore the ceremony went as planned.no delays, no late vips, no extra-long speeches. was really cool to meet up with my old dissection/biochem(?) table mates!when it was my time to get on stage and the robe-people were fixing up my robe n all, that was when i realised that i’ve been wearing my mortar(or whatever it is u call the hat thingy) the wrong way round!!n i’ve been posing like america’s next top model the whole afternoon doing photoshoots but had my mortar terbalik!!!oh god!wat rosak gambo jer.Dscn1689_1

monday180705 : boredom was getting to me.widure zamwal went 2work, home alone.ventured into e heart of doncaster. 1st thing dat caught my attention: CLARKS 70% discount. damn!if only i had my paycheck!!!managed to just passby without dropping in. singgah bank, pusing2 for a while and somehow managed to miss out french gate:THE PLACE TO GO SHOPPING in DONCASTER. haha..so unlike me. then head back, made a  few phone calls: 1 back home-talked to me momma & pops. syahdu…..i miss home!!!

tues 190705: up early at 7.00. went 2 dri (my workplace: Doncaster Royal Infirmary) to settle accom, etc. then with my heavy backpack & a torn wilky plastic bag where i put my graduation shoes, traveled 2 hours by train to manchester 4 a gmc appointment w farah n yah. met up w sum more m8s at McD oxford road where we ported for nearly 3hrs. within 2 minutes of our arrival at mcD sum1 managed to piss off sum1, sampaikan dat sum1 was willing to venture manchester sebatang kara after dat. padahal all were heading for the same final destination.haha.so emo laa my frens.wateva. asalkan u all bahagia. me, norley & normi: we ended up going 2 trafford centre & normi managed to get into a verbal kung-fu with the bus driver!haha.came up with tah ape theory about e bus driver not liking e muslims etc. i think twas just her, cus aku x kena pape pon.haha.mcm2.had e chicken madras at shere khan.damn pedas!must have been some Aligappa’s or Baba’s chilli powder!!while dining we were entertained by a bunch of old folks dancing around.they were so CUTE!!!just picture ur own grandparents  (or maybe mrs. kok!!) with their arthritic knees n grey hair going about doing the salsa, tango and spinning all over the dancefloor!!what a sight.view was further enhaced with the sound of splashing water from e man-made waves n artificial starlit-ceiling in dat food court. later grabbed a pair of workpants fr gap for 9.99 then headed for the train station. arrived just in time as e next train to sheffield was leaving in another 2 mins, we decided to make a dash for it. in my attempt to surpass ‘bullet time’, i succeeded in making a scene in the middle of the train station as i ‘gracefully’ toppled off my feet bcos my shoelace got stuck in e escalator’s gigi and tore of my shoe. there goes my maroon presto’s. luckily, the platform was not far away n we still managed to get on our train. phew what a day!!we bumped into farah n yah w der family dat juz arrived fr malaysia on dat particular train. syida n her parents too. its always a pleasure to see a familiar face when ur in a foreign land. later dat nite, crashed at nadra’s place. she’s reiny’s friend/ex-housemate dat happens to be such a nice girl. allowed me to abuse her ugc unlimited card n megarider. finally something to brighten up my day!!

my 1st attempt at blogging…i know it’s kinda late to start..the hype’s long gone…but believe me…this is e first time in such a long, long time that i have had so much free time for myself..so that’s why i decided 2 give dis thing a try..if i get hooked…damn another addiction for me….now that i’ve finally got a whole chunk load of time , i’m actually a wee bit overwhelmed..mati kutu..dunno what to do..bored like hell…currently adapting to the major changes i’m going through rite now…like what?transition from studentlife to worklife..living away from home..where’s my family? me mates?sum place at another end of the world called MALAYSIA..where am i?sum place at the other end of the globe called DONCASTER..what?where?..u heard me..doncaster..it’s a town near sheffield, united kingdom..+-20mins by train…bet u guys never heard it before..unless ur from doncaster itself..or probably from sheffield or uk or just happen to be one of those who ACES on each and everyone of their geography tests…

summary of past 5 days of my life..sunday 170705 took 13hour flight fr KL-Manchester, dragged a 35kg suitcase+laptop+knapsack from Manchester Airport, hopped on a bus to Piccadilly then on a train to Doncaster. Just to make matters worse.the train station didn’t have any lifts.and i had to go through underground tunnels 2 bypass the train tracks.going down was tolerable.going up???i was panting and had to stop after every single step.an old housemate from my uni days picked me up with her husband. nice to see a friendly face after all that lugging around.grabbed a cab and back to my temporary retreat: widure & zamwal’s place.glad was i to find a nice room set up for me.the house was great.had everything u needed.a good bath, double bed, cable tv, broadband, fridge, microwave, washing machine, iron.a traveller’s haven on foreign soil.threw my stuff on the floor, messed things up a bit n hopped for a bath.they both prepared a wonderful dinner.thanks to widure n zamwal 4 their kind hospitality.and zzzzzzzz……….
